FEBI Lecturer Paper Enters Top 5 Papers at the 2020 SSK Scientific Paper Competition Bank Indonesia

Lecturers of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI) UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta achieved a significant milestone by securing a place in the top five papers and earning the 1st Honorable Mention in the 2020 Scientific Works Competition for Financial System Stability (LKI SSK) held by Bank Indonesia. Hasan Albanna, a lecturer in the Islamic Banking study program, Achmad Nurdany, a lecturer in the Islamic Economics study program, and Dwi Marlina Wijayanti, a lecturer in the Islamic Accounting study program, were the winners. The 2020 LKI SSK competition, hosted by the Macro Prudential Policy Department (DKMP) of BI, is a well-regarded annual event that offers attractive prizes to the winners.

Deputy Director of DKMP Bank Indonesia, Sri Noerhidajati, announced at the 2020 Financial System Stability Research Seminar today (25/11) that the quality of the scientific papers submitted each year has shown continuous improvement. This year, 91 papers met the criteria and were submitted to the committee, from which the top 5 papers were selected. The final assessment and judging process by the jury involved presentations by the top five papers, which took place on Wednesday (4/11) through virtual conferences. The final judging process was divided into three locations based on the participants’ domicile: Yogyakarta, Jakarta, and Lampung.
In separate interviews, Hasan Albanna, as the team leader, stated that the main theme of their paper discussed the latest policy issued by Bank Indonesia, namely the Credit Restructuring Policy. This policy was implemented to assist households affected by the Covid-19 pandemic facing financial difficulties, particularly in repaying their bank debts. Therefore, the bank allowed the relaxation of debt repayments, providing significant relief.

“The question is, what is the impact of this policy on the stability of the banking financial system? Does it make the banking sector more stable or the opposite? This is the main focus of our paper,” he expressed.
Additionally, Hasan pointed out that despite not having the chance to secure first place, this accomplishment deserves recognition, given the highly competitive nature of the SSK competition held by Bank Indonesia. The rigorous assessment criteria, along with the expertise of the judging panel, made it particularly demanding to stand out in this contest. Simply attaining a position among the top five papers was already a significant source of pride.

In response to this achievement, the Dean of FEBI, Dr. Afdawaiza, urged the lecturers to continue making positive contributions to the progress of FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. These contributions can be made in various ways, including enhancing FEBI’s reputation nationally and internationally.
