Research methodology plays an crucial role in the implementation and completion of a research process. A good research methodology should be sound, accurate, precise, and consistent to ensure the resulting information is reliable. Research methodologies generally fall into two categories: qualitative and quantitative methods. These methods are integral to the process of transforming data into meaningful information through thorough examination and modeling, making the data understandable, useful, and accountable. Currently, there is software designed for data analysis that streamlines the process, enabling the production of valuable information. This software is beneficial for completing final assignments and conducting research for scientists, researchers, and students.
The significance of research methodology is well recognized, particularly in the production of scientific works and final assignments. Therefore, in 2021, the Sharia Accounting study program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga conducted a “Training on Research Methodology and Application of Eviews and SmartPLS Software” on Wednesday and Thursday, June 23-24, 2021 as part of its efforts to enhance student competence. The training was conducted virtually via the Zoom Meeting Virtual platform and Live Streaming on the FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga Youtube channel. The participants, totaling 120, included final year students in the Sharia Accounting study program and students engaged in research.
“Deepening the understanding and skills in using data analysis software such as Eviews and SmartPLS well, including in conducting research and final assignments, is very necessary for students, and the training conducted this time is very beneficial,” said Dr. Afdawaiza, S.Ag., M.Ag. (Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business UIN Sunan Kalijaga).
The event commenced at 13:00 WIB with an opening address by Dr. Afdawaiza, S.Ag., M.Ag., the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business. The speaker for the day was Agus Widarjono, M.A., Ph.D., a lecturer in the Department of Economics at the Islamic University of Indonesia and the author of the book “Econometrics and Statistics.” The session was moderated by Dinik Fitri Rahajeng Pangestuti, SE., M.Ak. The material covered multivariate analysis, which was categorized into three groups: dependent techniques, interdependent techniques, and structural models. The discussion also delved into regression analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM).
The activity on the second day commenced at 08:30 WIB and concluded at 13:00 WIB. It was moderated by Dwi Marlina Wijayanti, S.Pd., M.Sc., with the primary focus being the training on operating Eviews and SmartPLS software. During this session, participants directly practiced using sample data cases, allowing fellow students to gain a clear understanding of the software’s operations and functions.
“Even though this activity was conducted online and had limitations, it can serve as an initial step in fostering research utilizing Eviews software for all academic members of the Sharia Accounting Study Program, particularly for students preparing their final assignments,” said Alif Khuwarazmi, a student of the Sharia Accounting study program, class of 2017.
From the activities conducted over these two days, it is hoped that the participants in the 2021 student competence improvement activities can gain a thorough understanding of research principles and proficiently operate analysis tools such as Eviews and SmartPLS software. This will enable them to easily apply these skills in practical tasks such as preparing research proposals, final assignments, and other related activities.
