Yogyakarta, July 7, 2025 – The Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI) UIN Sunan Kalijaga held the International Visiting Professor Program as part of efforts to strengthen research capacity and international networking. This program is the result of collaboration with the Senior Expert Service (SES) from Germany. The presence of this program marks FEBI's commitment to building a superior and globally connected academic ecosystem.
This activity began with remarks and opening by the Dean of FEBI, Prof. Misnen Ardiansyah, accompanied by Dr. Sunaryati (1st VD), Dr. Mukhamad Yazid Afandi (2nd VD), Dr. Ibi Satibi (3rd VD). The program features Prof. Dr. Clemens Jürgen Rüland from the University of Freiburg, an expert in international relations and Southeast Asian studies. He is a visiting professor who will provide various training sessions, discussions, and academic consultations. This activity is a golden opportunity for lecturers to get direct guidance from world-class academics.
Furthermore, Prof. Ruland was also warmly received by the university leaders: the Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan, along with Prof. Dr. Istiningsih (1st VR), Dr. Mochamad Sodik (2nd VR), and Dr. Abdur Rozaki (3rd VR). This is undoubtedly a tangible manifestation of support from the leaders for strengthening the research culture within FEBI. The momentum also marks the first step in the development of more intensive cross-border academic collaboration.
This program is designed to support lecturers in improving the quality of scientific publications and methodological skills. The primary focus includes in-depth workshops on epistemology, research methodologies, and international publication strategies. In addition, individual consultation sessions are available to refine draft articles before they are submitted to reputable national and international journals.
In his remarks, Prof. Rüland emphasised the importance of understanding methodology in academic research. He mentioned that methodology is the primary foundation for producing quality and impactful research. Prof. Rüland also invited all participants to actively discuss and provide input to one another through scientific forums during the program.
With the implementation of the International Visiting Professor Program, FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga has once again proven itself as one of the centres for progressive Islamic economic development. These activities not only strengthen internal academic capacity but also expand academic connections to the international level. FEBI is committed to presenting innovations in education and research that are relevant to the times.
