Islamic Banking Lecturer from FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga Becomes a Delegate for the ASEAN Young Leader Training Program to China

Lecturers from FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga are actively participating in international forums. Most recently, Alex Fahrur Riza, SE., M.Sc, a lecturer in the Islamic Banking Study Program (PS), became a delegation from the Ministry of Youth and Sports to participate in The 52nd China-ASEAN Young Leaders Training Program held in China for one month, September 1-28, 2018. This program is regularly held by the All-China Youth Federation represented by their management in the Guangxi Province branch. The program aims to foster future leaders and strengthen relations between young people from the ten ASEAN countries and China.

The Marketing lecturer from FEBI UIN expressed keen interest in participating in the short course due to its highly beneficial activities. In addition to expanding foreign networks, the program also provided valuable experience and knowledge. “Throughout the 28 days of the China-ASEAN Youth Leaders Training program, I gained extensive knowledge spanning social, economic, political, and cultural aspects. This experience has truly broadened my understanding of the international arena. As an Indonesian, I take great pride in the opportunity to see Indonesia from the perspective of other nations,” said the modest and cheerful lecturer.

During his time in China, Alex, known by his familiar nickname, took part in a short course at the Guangxi International Youth Exchange Institute. The curriculum of this program struck a balance between theoretical and practical instruction, delivered by a number of esteemed lecturers, including Prof. He Tiejun, Prof. Lei Xiaohua, Prof. Luo Zhaoping, Prof. Huang, Prof. Liu Xuanqi, Prof. Bai Liming, Prof. Guan Xiqiang, Prof. Xu Houchun, Prof. Liang Ruqian, Prof. Wei Yanxiong, and other academics. Additionally, he had the opportunity to engage in an academic visit to Nanning College for Vocational Technology.

Furthermore, the delegation had the privilege of attending The 15th China-ASEAN Expo, The 6th China-ASEAN Logistics Cooperation Forum, and the Silk Road International Youth Innovation Summit. They also visited business development centers such as Dream Town in Hangzhou (China Silicon Valley) and technology companies NetEast & Zooland, as well as Bei Jiang Village, the automotive industry SGMW (Wuling) & cun.tabobo.com (Alibaba Group) in Liuzhou. The delegates were also extended invitations to visit poverty alleviation areas and tourist villages in Miao Village, as well as volunteer community areas in Fengqi Resident Community. Additionally, they explored historical sites including the Great Wall, Summer Palace, Confucius Temple, Imperial Palace, National Museum, and other significant landmarks.

To culminate this training activity, a cultural performance from each country was held, alongside the opening of a Book Store on campus. As part of the graduation requirements for this program, Alex presented his paper entitled “Youth Entrepreneurial Innovation: A Comparative Study in China and Indonesia.”
