The presence of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is a crucial pillar of the Indonesian economy, offering significant potential in addressing unemployment and poverty. In the DIY province, the abundance of MSMEs represents a valuable asset for enhancing the local economy. Recognizing the rapid growth of MSMEs, the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta collaborated with PT Pegadaian Syariah to hold a Seminar and Islamic Business Incubation Training under the theme “Towards Islamic Entrepreneurship.” The event took place from Monday to Friday (18-21/3) at the Auditorium on the 5th floor of the Ali Maksum building, FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.
The seminar and training were attended by over 50 MSME representatives from the general public and 20 FEBI students with practical business experience. The event featured seven distinguished speakers, comprising experts in the field of Islamic Business, including practitioners and academics such as Dr. Ferihana (Founder of Jalabeeb and Ferihana Cosmetic), Anang Darmawan (Seepilis), Dr. Shofiyullah Muzammil (Lecturer at FEBI UIN SUKA), Aqidah Sohiha (CEO of Weku Art and Design), Hasan Al Banna, M.E.I (Lecturer at FEBI UIN SUKA), Suryadin Laoddang (Trainer and Sales Lecturer), and Dinik Fitri Rahajeng (Lecturer at FEBI UIN SUKA).
Hence, the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business will be deemed successful when it effectively enhances the quality of life for low-income communities and provides support to others. “By carrying the theme ‘Towards Islamic Entrepreneur,’ the event is expected to help the community and students in developing their MSMEs,” said Waryono in his opening speech at the event.
Dr. H. Shofiyullah MZ, S.Ag, M.Ag, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Cooperation at the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, expressed that the collaboration between FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga and PT. Pegadaian Syariah serves as a pioneering project for all Islamic higher education institutions in Indonesia with faculty of Islamic economics and business. Shofiyullah further highlighted the importance of professionalism and maximizing business operations for students who are either initiating or already managing businesses. He also stressed the significance of preparing for new business opportunities post-graduation. “Successful individuals are not those who amass wealth, but those who can bring benefits to many people,” said Shofiyullah.
Dr. Ferihana introduced the theme “Change Your Habit,” emphasizing the importance of initiating businesses with good intentions and maintaining good habits in their operation. “Many of us initiate businesses with capital from usury, unaware that this can impede our business’s development. Commencing with virtuous intentions is crucial, particularly when conducting business in accordance with Sharia, where seeking blessings is paramount,” explained Dr. Ferihana.
The subsequent day featured presentations by three speakers: Aqidah Sohiha elaborated on techniques for capturing compelling photos to attract consumers, followed by Hasan Al Banna, M.E.I, elaborating on the intricacies of product packaging. Suryadin Laoddang then elucidated the importance of digital marketing, “because we cannot deny that everything is digital now, and we also have to keep up with its development so as not to be left behind,” said Suryadin. He also elaborated on marketing products through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.
On the third day, Dinik Fitri Rahajeng provided an in-depth explanation of bookkeeping and accounting. Additionally, throughout the event, the PT Pegadaian Syariah team offered direct guidance on Pegadaian Syariah products, which can aid MSMEs and entrepreneurs in securing funds. The event extended beyond seminars and training, offering mentoring opportunities for MSMEs and entrepreneurs to foster the development of their businesses. (Khabib/humas)
