The Sharia Finance Management study program of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business held the 3rd Sharia Finance Expo. This annual event took place with the theme “Islamic Financial Literacy Week: Explore Your Potential, Understand Your Environment, and Control Your Money” on Monday and Tuesday, October 29-30, 2018 at the State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The theme of the Sharia Finance Expo served as a platform to educate both students and the general public about the pivotal role of the Islamic finance industry in Indonesia.

The committee organized a diverse range of activities to make the 2018 Sharia Finance Expo engaging, encompassing both academic and non-academic pursuits, including:

1. Public Lecture and Opening Ceremony of the 3rd SEF, opened by the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, Dr. H. Shofiyullah Mz, S.Ag., M.Ag.
2. Regional Photography Competition
3. National Sharia Economics and Finance Olympiad for Students
4. Regional Traditional Art Competition
5. Coloring Competition for Kindergarten “Introducing Sharia Finance from an Early Age”
6. Bazaar
7.    Gathering Night and Award Ceremony

The national competition of Islamic economics and finance olympiad was participated by various universities in Indonesia. Upon reviewing the essays submitted to the committee, 16 teams sent their entries, from which 10 teams with the best essays were selected to proceed to the semi-final round. From these 10 teams, a further selection was made through written exams and paper presentations in front of the jury panel. The jury consisted of lecturers in Islamic financial management, namely H.M. Yazid Afandi, M.Ag, Sunarsih, SE, M.Si, Abdul Qoyum, M.Sc. Fin, and Dr. Darmawan, S.Pd., M.A. Eventually, 3 teams were chosen as the winners. The first prize was awarded to the team from UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim, the second prize to the team from STEI Tazkia, and the third prize to the team from Airlangga University.

In the non-academic field, a photography competition was held as a preliminary event for the SFE. Additionally, a coloring contest for children was organized, with 33 kindergarten children from the Special Region of Yogyakarta participating to gain early exposure to Sharia finance. This event took place in front of the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta clinic and featured 28 lively bazaar stands and two expos from Islamic financial institutions (LKS) that were registered with the committee. Additionally, the committee also organized a traditional art competition participated by 7 top teams, in collaboration with cultural experts in Yogyakarta, namely Mr. Deny Dumbo, Mrs. Yeni Ismarliah Susana, and Mrs. Ninin Tri Wahyuningsih, concluding the event in a festive manner. Following the jury’s assessment, the first prize was awarded to the SPH team from Bandung, the second prize to the Ninggit team, and the third prize to the Desiggel team.

The culmination of the SFE event was concluded with a gathering night held at the Prof. Soenarjo Building, 2nd floor. It was attended by invited guests from the deanery, lecturers of Islamic financial management, participants of the olympiad competition, participants of the traditional art competition, alumni of KUI, KS, and MKS, as well as students of Islamic financial management. The evening’s events were opened by the MC from the FEBI ambassador, followed by a speech from the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, Dr. Nurus Sa’adah, M.Si., who appreciated the hard work of the committee in ensuring the success of the SFE event, as well as serving as a gathering for alumni of the program. Mr. H. M Yazid Afandi, M.Ag., the head of the Islamic financial management department, also delivered a speech, encouraging students to prepare themselves for a better future by enhancing their knowledge and skills, as they are the future torchbearers of Islamic economics. M. Al Faridho Awwal, the chairman of the committee, expressed gratitude to all contributors and sponsors who supported the success of the event (30/10/18). The 3rd Sharia Finance Expo 2018 concluded with the gathering night featuring the Nun Music Entertainment group, and the announcement of the winners of the traditional art competition and the national Islamic economics and finance olympiad.
