Sharia Accounting Fair 2019: A Prestigious Event for the Contribution to the Development of Sharia Accounting in Indonesia

Yogyakarta, (28/10/2019) the Association of Students of Sharia Accounting Study Program at the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, held the 2nd Sharia Accounting Fair (SAF) 2019, focising on both artistic and scientific aspects. Dr. Abdul Haris, M.Ag, the Head of the Sharia Accounting Study Program, FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, inaugurated the event on Monday, October 28, 2019. The 2nd Sharia Accounting Fair (SAF) 2019 is an event designed to promote the field of Sharia Accounting and provide a platform for Islamic boarding school students, as well as students from DIY and Central Java, to showcase their talents and interests through various competitions in arts, sports, and sciences.

This event brought together a minimum of 125 individuals, including organizing committees and participants.
In the second year of organizing SAF, the selected theme was “The Role of Sharia Accounting in Developing the Indonesian Economy.” Mahmud Ali, the chairman of the SAF organizer, explained that this theme was selected as a modest initiative by Sharia Accounting students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta to contribute to Indonesia’s economic development. He emphasized the importance of applying Sharia Accounting at a micro level, such as in financing small rural communities, to support the government’s efforts in developing the Indonesian economy, particularly in rural areas. Additionally, given its early stage of development, Sharia accounting requires further refinement, research, and testing to establish itself as a relevant, reliable, and credible discipline that can be comprehensively and synergistically applied to bolster the Islamic economy in Indonesia. In his address, Dr. Abdul Haris, M.Ag, the Head of the Sharia Accounting Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, underscored the need for enhanced communication, cooperation, coordination, and synergy among students. He emphasized that strengthening these aspects would ensure the successful execution of the event. Additionally, he highlighted the potential of this activity to cultivate soft skills, particularly in event management, which cannot be acquired within the confines of a single semester.

The activities organized in SAF include a scientific paper competition, Qur’an recitation competition, acoustic music competition, tax seminar, and futsal tournament. The tax seminar was held through collaboration and coordination with the Tax Center at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, and it also marked the inauguration of the Tax Center at the university.
