Yogyakarta - In 2020/2021, students from the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business at the State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga in Yogyakarta took part in the Academic and Student Culture Introduction event, PBAK. The faculty comprises four study programs: Sharia Financial Management, Sharia Economics, Sharia Banking, and Sharia Accounting. This year’s PBAK theme is “Producing a globally-minded young economic generation with the spirit of Kalijaga,” with the hope that the new students this year will become the future economic leaders of the nation.
PBAK this year commenced on September 30, 2020, and concluded on October 1, 2020, with the participation of 574 new students from across the nation. In contrast to previous years, the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business adapted to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic by organizing PBAK activities virtually, through online platforms.
This time, the implementation of PBAK utilized virtual meeting technology through Zoom. The committee, comprising students and lecturers from the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, served as Co-Hosts and Hosts. Meanwhile, all new students participated in the activities from their respective homes, prioritizing their health. This approach allows them to meet on campus as soon as the situation improves.
“Welcome, new students! Welcome, young Kalijaga! Welcome, young economists, the future leaders of the nation at FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga,” said Dr. Afdawaiza, S.Ag, M.Ag, the Dean of FEBI, during an interview with the team.
During a speech at the technical meeting on September 29, 2020, Vice Dean III, Dr. Ahmad Salehuddin, emphasized the importance of new students participating in the inaugural activities before lectures begin on October 5, 2020. He stressed the necessity of attending PBAK and the Learning Socialization to ensure readiness for the upcoming lectures.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the organizing committee, Abdullah, advised all new students of 2020 to maintain their enthusiasm in participating in the academic and student culture introduction activities. He emphasized that this is a mandatory activity and it significantly influences their future direction as students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga.
On the first day of the PBAK activities, participants began with the Dhuha prayer to nurture the spiritual well-being of the new students. Following this, an educational game involving the continuation of verses from the Al-Qur'an using technology was organized, and the results were shared on each new student’s social media account. The day’s main agenda included an Islamic discussion centered on the theme “Strengthening Religious Moderation on Campus” as an effort to foster nationalism among the new students. This was followed by introductions to student organizations (ORMAWA) and student activity units (UKM). The activities on the first day were designed to engage the entire university community.
Meanwhile, on the second day, the new students resumed the activities by performing the Dhuha prayer, followed by a discussion on moderate Islam with the theme “The Correlation of Moderate Islam with the Economy in Indonesia” with Dr. Ibi Satibi, S.H.I., M.Si as the speaker. This was followed by a national discussion led by Ahmad Rifaldi Mustamin (Presma UIN Sunan Kalijaga and also the Central Coordinator of Advocacy & Movement of Dema PTKIN throughout Indonesia), as well as the introduction of the faculty environment and the socialization of student organizations at the faculty level.
