On Saturday to Sunday, October 24-25, 2020, the Executive Council of the Student Association of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI) UIN Sunan Kalijaga held the Leadership School and Political Education event. This event was designed for new students of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, offering them essential insights from speakers directly involved in Indonesian politics.
Prior to the event, Ade Surya Sukma, the Chairman of DEMA FEBI, stated in his welcome speech that participants of the Leadership School and Political Education event were expected to comprehend campus politics, Indonesian politics, and even global politics. He also stressed the importance of students not only excelling in intellectual matters but also understanding the current political situation in Indonesia.
Additionally, Dr. Ahmad Salehudin, the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs and Cooperation, underscored that political decisions influence everything around us and emphasized the significance of political knowledge. He urged students to recognize the dynamic nature of politics and to be capable of effectively engaging in political matters.
The event, themed “Fostering a Plural Spirit in Democratic Politics,” was held virtually via the Zoom Meeting platform. The event comprised two sessions and three panels. The first session, which took place on Saturday, October 24, 2020, featured Dr. Achmad Maulani, M.Si., an Expert Staff Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, and Husnol Hidayat S.E., the Chairman of the Honorary Board of the Pamekasan Regency Parliament. The second session, held on Sunday, October 25, 2020, featured Muhammad Dafiqul Fitrah S.E., a member of the Ministry of Manpower Assistance Team.
During the first session, Achmad Maulani delved into the topic of “Building Political Literacy for Millennials,” which addressed educating students about the importance of building literacy about the politics in Indonesia, including the impact of existing policies and political theories from various experts to provide understanding to the students.
In the second session, Husnol Hidayat explored the topic of “Leadership Management,” addressing on the essential skills required to manage an organization while also possessing the ability to lead, direct, and motivate others in an effective and efficient mannner. The discussion also highlighted the individual roles of students in leadership, both within the campus and in the broader community and its surroundings.
On the following day, October 25, 2020, Muhammad Dafiqul Fitrah explored the topic of “Politics in the Swirl of Student Movements,” addressing the actions that students should take amidst the ongoing polemic.
Therefore, the Executive Council of the FEBI Student Association hopes that all participants will actively participate in this event to gain valuable knowledge for themselves and their surrounding environment.
